The Showcase Magazine - Salutes

Tacos and Latin American street foods are front and center at Salted Lime Bar & Kitchen, now open and receiving rave reviews on Main Street in Somerville! The latest Mark Daniel Hospitality establishment is setting a new bar for casual dining, with an unbelievable bar program and open-air concept that makes Salted Lime feel like one big fiesta – a perfect place to catch up with old friends or make new ones around tables made for passing plates and a menu that fosters sharing and sampling a little of everything.

“We opened in November, and the Somerville community has whole-heartedly welcomed us,” says General Manager Danny McGill. “The reception has been amazing.”

The Salted Lime experience centers on tacos, but shareable plates like yucca empanadas and Latin American classics like skewers and quesadillas are not to be missed! The flavors of Mexico, Chile and Peru come alive thanks to the culinary skill of Executive Chef Renner Burgos. Highlighted by main courses such as ceviche, a quinoa bowl, and an exciting jicama citrus platter, the menu features plenty of options whether you’re looking for traditional fare or something new and different.

Mark Daniels Hospitality’s President, Mark Farro, founded Salted Lime on his personal passion for tacos, and McGill says the restaurant’s taco lineup has been hugely popular. Among diners’ favorites so far have been the lechon (marinated, grilled pork) and baja fish tacos. And while the wide selection of margaritas brings a taste of the familiar, patrons are also discovering vibrant Latin spirits like Cachaca and Pisco. Salted Lime’s take on the pisco sour, for example, is the Disco Power: it kicks the South American classic up a notch by adding aperol – and glitter!

Farro also operates a Mt. Bethel Road restaurant in Warren that’s been “uprooting” expectations for upscale casual dining for almost 10 years: Uproot, at the corner of Mt. Bethel and Mountain Boulevard. From the upturned tree sculpture hanging in the lobby to the easy, airy, casual interior, Uproot continues to “push the boundaries of what casual dining is, while keeping things fresh and exciting,” McGill explains.

Uproot is a family restaurant that surprises, featuring roasted duck, pan-seared halibut, and fire-grilled hangar steaks, to name a few. John’s Meat Market in neighboring Scotch Plains provides a custom meat blend for Uproot’s classic burgers, and the bar menu is always evolving. Farro has even partnered with Maker’s Mark to offer Uproot patrons a customized, one-of-a-kind bourbon!

And finally, Mark Daniels’ INC American Bar & Kitchen in New Brunswick continues to impress and rack up the accolades. It was recently named one of the state’s Top 3 whiskey bars, and one of the Top 15 bars in New Jersey overall! Located just a mile or so from the George Street Playhouse, INC. is the ideal spot for a pre-show dinner or a nightcap when the curtain goes down. With over 150 brands of whiskey, you’re sure to find one to your liking.

This year make it a point to visit a Mark Daniels Hospitality restaurant for an experience you won’t soon forget. Better yet, visit all 3! Find the Salted Lime at 46 East Main Street in Somerville, Uproot at 9 Mount Bethel Road in Warren’s Corner Village, or INC. at 302 George Street in New Brunswick.
