The Showcase Magazine - Salutes

Tucked away in a corner of a small strip mall, Pan Asian Bistro, in the Martinsville section of Bridgewater, has been open for two months now. They specialize in Japanese and Thai cuisine, but also have some Chinese favorites on the menu. From what I could see, the place was doing a brisk business, especially with take out orders.

The owners, Sean and Sarah Kou, are originally from China and now live in Edison with one child (and another on the way.) Sean has prior restaurant experience, and with advice and help from family members in the business, decided to open his own place. Along with their cousin Jeff, the sushi chef, and Jack, the kitchen chef, they work together to ensure that their patrons enjoy a delicious meal. The restaurant itself, which has about twelve tables and a large sushi bar, is very welcoming. Light colored furniture, soft lighting from the sparkling chandelier hanging from the blue and yellow ceiling, and Asian instrumentals playing quietly in the background all create a peaceful and calm atmosphere. Diners were able to converse easily with each other and have a relaxing and enjoyable dining experience.

The Kou’s are friendly and greet customers as they come through the door. They are also attentive, and make sure their diners are satisfied from the beginning to the end of their meal. Their menu has all the dishes one would expect, such as a wide variety of raw and cooked sushi, which can be ordered by the piece or as dinners that include soup and salad, Pad Thai, Thai Basil Noodle, Vegetable, Chicken and Shrimp tempura, Lo Mein, and Chicken, Salmon, and Shrimp teriyaki. Their Chef specials include Snow White Moo Goo Gai Pan with Grand Mariner Shrimp, A Chef’s Filet Mignon with mixed stir fry vegetables and Shrimp and Crab Meat in Lobster Sauce. They also offer catering, so if you are having a party anytime soon, keep them in mind.

The restaurant is located at 1982 Martinsville Road, and they open every day at 11:30, and close at 9:30 Monday through Thursday, at 10:00 on Friday and Saturday, and at 9:00 on Sunday. There’s plenty of parking in the lot (the entrance is off of Chimney Rock Road) and they do take reservations. To see their full menu, please go to or for more information, give them a call at 732-667-5587 or 732-667-5588.

Sean and Sarah look forward to expanding their clientele and possibly even opening another restaurant in the future. From the aromas emanating from nearby tables, and the positive reviews on Yelp, I can imagine their business growing rapidly.
