Letter from the Mayor's Office

Dear residents,

This has been quite a year! Navigating the new realities of the COVID-19 pandemic and the changes to how we live our lives from spending more time at home with our families to wearing masks to social distancing to outdoor dining. Additionally, Storm Isaias forced us to take a breath from these new realities as we dealt with a brief storm recovery.

The Township Committee and our Township Departments have been hard at work assisting all of our residents while developing new methods to provide township services to you. Township Committee meetings are now broadcasted live and Zoom alternatives are being developed to allow residents to participate in meetings from the safety of their homes. The Township has expanded its use of online services while residents have taken advantage of dropping off construction permits, voting ballots, and tax payments.

Our Police Department and Office of Emergency Management (OEM) have assisted residents in many ways including our CERT volunteers delivering food to our senior citizens and school children. The Watchung Hills Board of Education and Warren Township Board of Education executed plans to allow our students to return to in-person learning. Sports activities, while on a brief pause, have returned. Warren residents have enjoyed outdoor dining at our many restaurants and have enjoyed taking yoga and martial arts in the park.

Township Recreation programs offered some wonderful outdoor concerts and virtual programs.

Although we have all adjusted to the lifestyle changes brought on by COVID-19, I look forward to our gradual return to normal as our students return to a full schedule in the classrooms, we begin to once again visit our Warren restaurants and other businesses, and we enjoy the holiday decorations along Mountain Boulevard, the Municipal Complex as well as some of our historic buildings.

I thank my colleagues on the Township Committee for allowing me to serve as Mayor during 2020, I’m honored to have been able to represent all of you on behalf of our great Township. As we exit the Fall season, I wish all of you a happy and healthy holiday season.

Warm Regards,

Mayor - Michael “Mick” Marion
