A flautist, pianist, wife, mother and grandmother, Debi Murray has spent many of her adult years volunteering in her children’s activities and attending/leading bible studies. While creativity through a variety of activities has always been a part of her life, it wasn’t until 2009, when her family began to undergo a series of trials, that she discovered painting. On a whim, she took an acrylic class with one of her daughters and soon realized that art was going to be an important (and fun!) part of her future. It became a way to cope with things she could not change.
Murray quickly turned to renowned artist, Chris Thomas of Art Hub CT in Newburgh, Indiana for oil painting lessons and has studied with him for the past ten years. She also attended several workshops around the country with Dreama Tolle Perry, Nancy Franke and portrait artist, Tina Garrett.
Focusing primarily on commissions for the past several years, Murray has collectors in the U.S. and Africa. She is inspired by what moves her heart - which generally include portraits, pets, and floral paintings, as well as color and light play, which sometimes trumps subject matter! Many times, as a painting progresses, a story - with scripture - unfolds and is printed to accompany the painting, should the collector want it. Her process is enhanced when she gets to meet, interact with, and develop relationships with her subjects.
Murray paints primarily from her home studio in Evansville, Indiana, accompanied by studio Labrador Retriever, Maizey, listening to praise and worship music.
