fter working in kitchens for over 20 years, Albanian restauranteur, Nick Mavraj, accomplished his dream of opening his own restaurant. Alongside his co-worker of 10+ years, Chef Juan Asudillo, the pair set out to provide their customers with fresh, home-cooked meals. In December of 2021, they opened Blu Crête Bistro in Basking Ridge, determined to create a welcoming atmosphere where everyone could feel at home and enjoy a delicious meal. 

"I have always loved living in Basking Ridge. I was waiting for my opportunity to open something, and when a long-time spot in this shopping center became available, I knew it was time to bring my food and magic touch,” says Mavraj. 

Blu Crête Bistro offers an eclectic menu featuring a French and Italian flair, along with Asian and vegetarian options. While Mavraj remains in the front of the house, his passion for food makes its way to curate the menu, which changes seasonally and for daily specials based on the stock of local seafood and meat vendors. “I didn't want this restaurant or menu to be like anything else – Not old fashion, but more an upscale, modern Italian bistro. We have 10-15 specials each night, including seafood, pasta, soups, and salads for appetizers and entrees.” A popular appetizer includes the Sushi Pizza with crunchy rice tuna scallions spicy aioli soy reduction. If it were up to Mavraj, here are his “Must Try” items:

#1: Pappardelle: Short Rib Ragu, Pappardelle Pasta, Infused Demi Glazed Tomato Basil Sauce

#2: Steak Frites: Grilled Hanger Steak, French Fries, Chimichurri Sauce

#3: Branzino: Bone in Charred, Mediterranean Seabass, Lemon Butter Sauce

Everything on the menu is made fresh to order. Mavraj notes, “We are happy to accommodate gluten-free, and whole wheat needs as well.”

In addition to providing excellent, quality food Mavraj was focused on curating a cozy neighborhood place. Blu Crête Bistro offers private rooms for guests with parties sized between 50, 85, and 125. Whether you are hosting your next corporate meeting, holiday party, or birthday party or are interested in watching the game in a large group, Mavraj has a variety of party packages to accommodate your needs. Packages allow guests to select from various antipasti, salads, entrees, and dessert options. “I’ll collaborate directly with the customers to meet their needs!,” says Mavraj. Prices for the various packages range from $45 to $65 per person, plus tax and gratuities.

While Mavraj is proud to share his passion for food with his customers, he is even more proud to share it with his loved ones turned staff members. Blu Crête Bistro is a family-run business with his daughter Lina and son Eddie (both in high school) and other family members working alongside him. The restaurant has truly become a family affair.
