The Showcase Magazine - Salutes

Dr. Daniel Sullivan was inspired to become an oral surgeon by his godfather, Dr. Terrence Duddy, who served as a dentist in the Army during the Vietnam War. Dr. Duddy provided high-quality dental care and performed oral surgical procedures for his patients, which he did for over 40 years. Today, Dr. Sullivan takes great satisfaction in providing his patients with the same high-level service.

“The biggest reward of my career is to serve our local community, as there was a huge need for specialized oral surgical procedures when we opened Warren Oral Surgery in 2004,” he says. That demand is still strong today.

Dr. Sullivan was also instrumental in assisting survivors of the 2001 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center. “These patients had obvious physical wounds, but also needed special care as many of them didn’t know the status of their co-workers, friends and family members.”

Dr. Sullivan and three other oral surgeons in the practice stay on top of all the advancements and technology in the field to deliver the most up-to-date procedures for the best possible outcome for patients. “We are now able to take CT scans of patients in our office via cone beam technology with little radiation to greatly assist in planning the best treatment options for our patients,” he says. “We can virtually place implants and perform other procedures on our software to have excellent insight into the long-term predictability of procedures for our patients. Digital scanners are now utilized to fabricate surgical templates and enable dentists to fabricate crowns with a scanner digitally instead of the older method with impressions.”

According to Dr. Sullivan, the most requested services are routine dental extractions, removal of wisdom teeth and dental implant placement. “We collaborate closely with general dentists and other dental specialists who refer patients to our office for these procedures. Additionally, many come directly to our office with dental emergencies who need dental extractions.”

With a strong connection to the community (he and his wife Vlora have lived in Warren for the last twenty years and are raising their four children—Peter, Sarah, Joseph, and Daniella—there), he believes strongly in giving back, whether that be to youth sports, local schools, religious/senior centers, local businesses, or the many other local entities that support the community.

Warren Oral Surgery recently underwent a total renovation, and with its friendly staff, some of whom have been with the practice for over a decade, the atmosphere is comforting and welcoming. Dr. Sullivan and his team have built long-lasting relationships with ongoing patients and look forward to doing the same with new patients. It’s no wonder he has received the NJ Monthly Award of Top Dentist 16 years in a row.

When not caring for patients, he enjoys spending time with his family and three dogs (Juno, a Sheepadoodle; Luna, a Pomeranian Husky; and Chloe, a French Bulldog), coaching his sons’ baseball teams, and watching his daughters participate in gymnastics and soccer. He also loves to play tennis.
