Riverside Oral Surgery offers the entire spectrum of oral and maxillofacial surgeries from extraction of wisdom teeth, biopsies and implant placements to jaw reconstructive surgery and the repair of traumatic injuries to the face and the head.
With its multiple offices throughout New Jersey, the practice includes surgeons who are trained in TMJ disorders, head and neck cancers, cleft and craniofacial issues and more. Cosmetic services include facelifts, eyelid lifts, and the administration of Botox®, Dysport®, Juvéderm® and Teosyal®.
Board certified Drs. James McMenamin and Nitish Gangoli both work in the Warren location. When they were first introduced to the incredible and immediate results brought about by oral and maxillofacial surgery, they knew it was the specialty for them.
“I always loved dentistry, but never really gave oral surgery a thought until I did a one-year general practice residency in a hospital,” says Dr. McMenamin. “In my first month, there were some major oral surgery cases that they let me scrub in on. From then on, I knew what I wanted to do.”
Adds Dr. Gangoli, “I had a professor who took me into the operating room in my first or second year of dental school, and that was it. I committed myself to oral surgery.”
When patients first walk into Riverside, they are undoubtedly anxious. “It's normal to be nervous,” says Dr. McMenamin. “But we have a front office and nursing staff that is very calming and reassuring.” And, says Dr. Gangoli, “Part of our training is to ease that anxiety as best as we can.”
Patients also want to know that the practitioners performing the procedures are highly trained and experienced. “In the United States, after anesthesiologists and nurse anesthetists, oral surgeons have the most anesthesia training of any other medical profession,” explains Dr. Gangoli, who has been performing oral surgery for 10 years.
He received his B.A. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Boston University, a Master’s degree from UMDNJ, then his DMD degree from UMDNJ – New Jersey Dental School, which is currently part of Rutgers University. He furthered his education with an internship at Rutgers School of Dental Medicine and completed his residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery at Christiana Care Health System in Wilmington, DE, becoming chief resident in his final year.
Dr. McMenamin, who has been practicing dentistry for 37 years, attended the University of Notre Dame and then Rutgers School of Medicine and Dentistry where he received his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree. He completed his surgery residency training at Jersey City Medical Center, where he currently holds the position of Chief of the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and is also the director of the program.
When not assisting patients, Dr. Gangoli enjoys spending time with his wife and three young children, often chauffeuring them around to their various activities.
Dr. McMenamin, who has four children and six grandchildren, loves to travel with his wife and play golf. He is a member of Baltusrol Golf Club, as well as two other golf courses.
