On September 11, 2001, Stephen had just gotten off the late shift at Squad 1, Park Slope, Brooklyn. He was on his way to play golf with his brothers when his scanner told of the first plane hitting the Twin Towers. When he heard the news, Stephen called his wife Sally and asked her to tell his brothers he would catch up with them later, and then returned to Squad 1 to get his gear. Today, people with developmental disabilities are outliving their parents. Then what? Our House is our community solution.

Founded in 1980, Our House, Inc. is a private, non-profit 501(c) 3 organization that provides residential, employment and recreational services to individuals with developmental disabilities. Our first home opened in 1980 in Summit, NJ, and we have steadily grown to 37 residences throughout Union, Essex, Somerset and Morris Counties.

The goal of Our House, Inc. is to promote a high quality of life for individuals with developmental disabilities. Services are designed to be flexible, in order to meet each individual�s unique needs. A strong emphasis is placed on enhancing community involvement and participation, as well as helping individuals develop meaningful connections to community life.
