When it comes to operating on patients, Dr. Nitish Gangoli of Riverside Oral Surgery views it as a privilege. So, he treats all of his patients with the care and respect he knows they deserve.
“Many patients appreciate that I take the time to talk with them and answer all their questions,” he says. “I always want to be sure they understand what’s going to happen, manage their expectations, and truly give them that peace of mind.”
Many times, surgeons can be very talented with their medical skills, but their bedside manner may leave something to be desired. “Half of this career is technical training and explaining all the options for treatment, anesthesia and so forth, but the other side is harder to learn, which is empathy and caring," says Dr. Gangoli. “For me, it’s just my personality and the way I was raised.”
In addition to being a highly trained oral and maxillofacial surgeon, Dr. Gangoli is also board-certified in his specialty. Whether in the office improving a patient’s smile or in a hospital dealing with facial trauma, he finds it all rewarding.
“Today, many oral surgery treatments can be done in one day, so after years of problems, patients can walk out with the confidence of having a brand new smile and something they can actually use to chew harder foods,” he says. “It’s truly life-changing.”
When there’s an emergency at the hospital, and someone needs facial surgery due to a traumatic injury or an infection, Dr. Gangoli’s ability to be patient and kind is even more critical. “Those are some of my most rewarding cases, and I take the time to explain to my patients and their families what they’re going to look like, how they’re going to feel, and whatever else they may be concerned about when the surgery is over.”
He’s very thankful for the impact he can make in his career and for the blessings in his personal life, especially for the health and happiness of his children. “When they come out as babies, you count all those fingers and toes and then as they grow, you hope that they're picking up on the right things.”
For this New Jersey native, having his home and office close to each other enables him to be there for his patients and family whenever he is needed.
“My wife is an attorney, and it's certainly the time management conundrum of most working parents these days of finding a good work-life balance," says Dr. Gangoli. “My three kids are all under 10 years old, requiring much care. One of the main reasons I joined Riverside Oral Surgery in Warren was to have the balance of being there for my family and my patients.”
Riverside Oral Surgery, which has several locations all over New Jersey, offers a wide range of services, from tooth extraction, jaw surgery, dental implants and bone grafting to facial cosmetic surgery and pediatric oral surgery.
