Since coming under new management last year, James Anthony Hair Design in Gillette has added a host of new offerings, including waxing, facials, eyelash lifting and eyebrow lamination. Providing these additional services is cosmetologist Michelle Zapata.
“My mom is a cosmetologist and owned her own salon in Colombia, where we’re from,” she says. Growing up in a hair salon inspired Michelle to follow in her mother’s footsteps, and she joined the James Anthony team last August.
“It's a really nice experience because the salon is calm without too much noise, which allows us to talk with our clients,” she says. “We listen to what they want and need because we're trying to help them feel beautiful with what they have.”
Speaking with clients, especially those who come in repeatedly, allows her and the rest of the team to build relationships with them. “We’re going to remember their names and know who they are. It's not just a relationship between a client and a worker. It really gets to a point where they become our friends.”
James Anthony Hair Design also has a special service for seniors with mobility issues. The staff helps them get out of their cars and walks them into and out of the salon. “This keeps them safe,” says Michelle.
The beauticians, who focus mainly on hair, are all very talented and welcoming. “Tommy is amazing,” she says. “He's so friendly and funny. Carol is also really nice and always makes us laugh. There’s also Wendy and Jen, as well as Anthony, who was the original owner of the business.”
Along with traditional hair services such as shampoo/cut/blow dry, there are a myriad of other options: Dry haircuts, which are perfect for maintaining length or shape between full cuts; a simple shampoo/blow dry or set; and a basic blowout for that special occasion or to just look pulled together.
Hair perming is also offered to provide lasting curls and waves, as is the application and maintenance of hair extensions, which can add significant length, volume, and/or highlights to natural hair.
Coloring options include all-over color, color creme with blowout or set, color liquid with blowout or set, foils, partial foils, and cap frosting.
Many clients also like to indulge in a hair spa, a specialized deep conditioning and relaxation treatment for the hair and scalp. This service is designed to nourish, repair, and revitalize dry or damaged hair. It also provides a therapeutic and calming experience.
In addition to its hair services, the salon offers high-quality retail products, including mousse, shampoos, conditioners, and hair treatments from brands such as OLAPLEX, Matrix, and Paul Mitchell®, so that clients can maintain their great styles and colors at home.
When it comes to skin care, the various facials provided by Michelle range from 30 minutes to 1 hour and 20 minutes, so clients can even come in during their lunch hours and return to work looking rejuvenated. This service usually includes cleansing, exfoliation, and a mask to brighten and refresh the complexion.
Eyelash lifting and eyebrow lamination are other ways to brighten the entire face by making eyes pop, while waxing gets the skin summer-ready.
Michelle enjoys providing these specialized services and meeting new people. “I love every single client who comes in the door because they're all so nice,” she says.
