Ab-Salute Fitness

By Lauren Holstein

Reggie Tyler didn’t always live and breathe fitness. Over 30 years ago, he was running a bail bonds & bounty hunting business in Newark. But everything changed when his 7-year-old daughter commented on his stomach. That innocent yet impactful nudge from his daughter led him into the world of fitness, eventually transforming not only his own life but also the lives of countless others.

Reggie began working out regularly and took his passion further by becoming a certified personal trainer. He met his mentor, Kris Wade, at her local studio in Warren. She guided him as he trained for his state certification, and he worked under her for years. When Kris eventually retired, Reggie carried the torch, moving through various iterations of fitness studios—including Fitness Essentials—before ultimately founding Ab-Salute Fitness in August 2020. “After a few clients offered to back him, if he could find a space to train.” Within a week, he was looking at spaces.” Without any backing from his previous clients, he was able to open Ab-Salute Fitness with the clients he retained.

Ab-Salute Fitness stands out for its welcoming vibe, open layout, and Reggie’s laser-focused attention to detail. “Walk in strong and walk out stronger” is proudly written on the studio door, and Reggie lives up to that promise with every client.

Today, Reggie is a certified NASM trainer with specialties in youth, seniors, weight loss, and posture correction. He offers private and semi-private training sessions by appointment only, with no membership fees. Every new client starts with a Functional Movement Screening (FMS)to evaluate balance, posture, and mobility. “I want to see how your body moves, where you’re tight, what hurts, what’s overactive or underactive. Once I know that, I can build a program that helps you,” says Reggie.

There are three training options at Ab-Salute Fitness. The first is private 1:1 training, which is focused, individualized workouts scheduled at the client’s convenience. The second is semi-private group training, which includes up to six people per session. Each person follows a plan tailored to their ability, but all work through total-body exercises with an emphasis on form and functionality. The third option is the Jump Start Program. For $100, new clients get a free movement screening and seven semi-private sessions to use within 30 days. It’s designed to introduce people to Reggie’s method with no long-term commitment.

Workouts last 50 minutes to an hour and begin with a warm-up and stretching session. Clients can schedule sessions through the Ab-Salute Fitness mobile app.

The studio is an open space featuring cardio equipment (treadmill, bike, and rower), weights, TRX, and additional equipment. “We keep the space flexible so it can be set up for the day’s workout,” Reggie explained.

Throughout all training options, Reggie focuses on form over flash. He often sees people training with poor technique or working with unqualified trainers, which leads to injury or wasted effort. His goal is to make sure every client understands proper movement and builds strength from the ground up. “Form helps you burn more calories and avoid injury,” he says.

Looking ahead, Reggie hopes to grow his client base and eventually mentor another trainer. His mission is clear: To help people move better, get stronger, and stay healthy for life.
